A Day In My Life As A Digital Nomad In Canggu, Bali
7 AM: Sometimes I need a little pick-me-up to get me out of bed. Enter Mustache Coffee Bali. They have an early morning (6a-8a) “Surfers” special where all coffee (lattes, chai, long black, etc) are all 25K ($1.77 USD). Luckily, this deal works for everyone, so I usually roll out of bed and walk 5 minutes to this cute cafe. It’s pretty much just a counter with seating for around 5 people, but in the last month or so they opened a little side room as well (very work-friendly). Anyways, I bring my laptop, enjoy my latte, and complete 1.5 hours of work to start off the day.
9AM: I meet two friends at Body Factory for their Rumble Boxing class. I fall in love with the facilities and the class is one of the hardest classes I’ve ever taken (and I’ve taken a-lot)! Also worth mentioning- the clientele here is all very fit and attractive, this can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what you’re looking for. They have a special right now where all classes are just 100K ($7.10 USD).
10AM: I was planning on heading to a cafe nearby after the class to work, but since I am so sweaty and embarrassingly red, I head to the coffee shop connected to the gym called Espresso Factory. Since it’s my first time here, they ask me to write a Google Review and then I receive 50% off a protein shake! I spend an hour drinking my shake and getting some more work done.
11:30AM: I meet my boyfriend for an early lunch at Vinny’s Warung. We both order their breakfast special which includes an entree, a coffee, and a juice for 100K ($7.10 USD). Not the cheapest deal, but I’m willing to pay extra for high quality and healthy food. I order sweet potato pancakes with grilled bananas, watermelon juice, and a coconut cappuccino.
1PM: I head over to one of my favorite co-working spots: Zin@Work. It is an open air, bungalow style workspace and best of all it’s completely FREE (for now). It is located in Zin Cafe and is still in a soft opening period. This mean you can relax, get your work done, and not have to worry about purchasing anything. I’m just dreading the day this too-good-to-be-true deal comes to an end. Pro-tip: If you do feel like purchasing something, try their naan bread. It is around 45K ($3.18 USD) and comes with the best sauces to dip in.
5:30 PM: I head home to my villa but make a quick stop to pick up my laundry from Adi’s Laundry. Laundry is a super easy process in Canggu! I dropped off my laundry yesterday and then pick it up in 24 hours. It is washed, dried, ironed, and folded for me and costs around 50K ($3.54 USD) depending on how much my laundry weighs. For reference, I usually wash my clothes about once a week!
“Sometimes I need a little pick-me-up to get me out of bed.”
6PM: I rarely miss watching the sunset at the beach, but sadly this is one of those days. I know if I stay at the beach I will be too rushed to make it to a dinner later. I get back to my villa, take a shower and get changed and ready to head out to dinner. Pro Tip: Use “Facebook Marketplace” to find a room in a villa. And when you find a room you like, book it ASAP, because it can be competitive! I pay 5M a month ($353 USD) for my room with a private bathroom. It was at the top of my budget but includes everything (a pool, utilities, AC, etc). You can find rooms for less, but also a-lot more depending on what you are looking for! Also, prices are climbing rapidly as more and more people move to/visit Bali. Still a good deal compared to US (looking at you, LA) prices.
7PM: I meet a group of friends for a goodbye dinner at Lolas. Because Canggu is such a Digital Nomad hotspot, people are constantly coming and going. I would say the average person stays 1 to 2 months before moving on to the next spot. I’ve met most of my friends through Dojo, a co-working spot that is community focused. Anyways, I order a Steak Taco Salad for 65K ($4.60 USD) and a Coconut for 25K ($1.77 USD).
9PM: Our group walks one minute to the bar of the night: Pretty Poison, a self-acclaimed backyard inspired arts bar with a skating rink. This is a Canggu classic spot, and I swear it keeps getting busier each time I go back! Instead of staying out late, I head home early because I have an early morning call (thanks to the 15-hour time difference between LA and Bali).
